The Conservation Board was created by the Town of Bedford’s Town Board to act in an advisory capacity. In this role it provides environmental and conservation related information to the Town Board, Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals, the Wetlands Commission, as well as other town agencies.
Most recently, members of the Conservation Board were actively involved in a Dark Skies project that resulted in a new town lighting ordinance. Residents interested in hiking trails and walkways in and around Bedford will find useful information at http://www.bedfordny.info/html/parks.html
Current Conservation Board projects include a biodiversity study of the entire area located within the Town’s borders, the designation of scenic and historic roads within the Town, revising the Town’s Tree Ordinance, creating an inventory of the Town’s small lakes and ponds, and recognizing notable environmental practices with its Green Seal Award.
