Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee
Email: [email protected]
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee is a volunteer group created by the Town Supervisor in March 2006 to advise the Supervisor on all issues relating to bicycling and pedestrians.  As such, the Committee helped develop the request for the Town’s takeover of Bedford Center Road and the current construction of pathways, obtained money for bike paths through the Transportation Bond Act, started a bicycle patrol in the police department and added bicycle racks throughout the Town.

The task of the Committee is to ensure equity for bicycles and pedestrians in transportation planning in the Town in keeping with the Bedford 2020 initiative, and is developing a Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.

The goal of the Committee is to connect people, by making it safe and easy for people to have bicycle and pedestrian access to all parts of the Town of Bedford, and ultimately to help make Bedford a livable and sustainable community.

2nd Westchester Bicycle Summit, Thursday, May 6, 2010 was held in Greenburgh, NY. Planners, state and local government officials, and bicyclists come together for the second Westchester Bike Summit, organized by the Bike Walk Alliance of Westchester/Putnam. State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins will be talking about the safe-passing law that she is sponsoring in Albany, following the tragic death of bike advocate Merrill Cassell, who died in November, 2009 after being struck by a Bee-Line bus whilst cycling. For all information on this event please go to:

1st New York State Bicycle Summit,
This was held in Albany on April 21, 2010. The Bedford Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee were in attendance, and it was a very interesting meeting indeed. For a detailed account of the meeting by the Bedford Bike Walk member, please send an email to [email protected] and you will be sent an account of the meeting by our Representative. It is exciting that at present there are “Complete Streets” bills under discussion in both the Assembly and Senate. You can find out what “Complete Streets” means in the account of the Summit – email us and ask for a copy.
